This is an important and inspiring document. Perfectly in sync with what it
says are many of the current trends, some new, some old.
They include the tiny house movement, urban community farms, community
gardens, urban permaculture homesteads,
urban permaculture farms and the trend to fully incorporate permaculture
into urban and rural intentional communities and rural homesteads, farms
and market farms, constructed wetlands, swimming pools that are in part
constructed wetlands, floating gardens and chinampas for bioremediation,
food production and wildlife habitat.
I would like to see more integration of permaculture with landscape
design/construction/maintenance, industrial landscape architecture,
residential landscape architecture, residential and commercial architecture
and year round plant factories utilizing hydroponics, aeroponics,
hydroponics and aquaponics.
With coming water shortages there will be a large need for diversified food
production in areas where salt and brackish water is the primary source of
irrigation water. Complex fully integrated aquaponics systems utilizing
salt-adapted native food and forage plants, work well in this sort of
difficult environment. There are YouTube videos and PBS Documntaries
illustrating successful projects undertaken in such locales. There is a
great one filmed in Africa that involves mangroves, shrimp, ponds and
weirs, and a native salt tolerant food plant.
I posted a reference to this video years ago.
