Subject: Anthropocene Boosters and the Attack on Wilderness Conservation
Dear Friends and Colleagues

Anthropocene Boosters and the Attack on Wilderness Conservation
by George Wuerthner (Ecological Projects Director of the Foundation for
Deep Ecology)
http://www.independentsciencenews.org/environment/anthropocene-boosters-and-the-attack-on-wilderness-conservation/
Synopsis: Conservation is under attack. The attack comes from individuals
and institutions (here called Anthropocene Boosters, but sometimes
'Neo-greens' and other names) whose intention is to undermine traditional
wildlife conservation and replace it with a custodial mindset. The
Anthropocene Boosters argue we cannot preserve wilderness, since it no
longer exists. Therefore, conservationists should stop criticising
corporations, or the idea of natural limits, and instead should help manage
the earth for human welfare and progress. The new mindset, argues ecologist
George Wuerthner, is in some parts simply erroneous and in others based on
'straw man' arguments. It is, of course, dangerously hubristic, but it is
also a spearhead for corporate domination of the earth.
