Kickstarter Says Customer Data Accessed in Hack
Usernames and Encrypted Passwords Among Data Accessed
Crowdfunding site Kickstarter says the data accessed include usernames,
encrypted passwords, email and mailing addresses and phone numbers.
By Andrew Dowell
Crowdfunding site Kickstarter said some of its customers’ data was accessed
in a computer attack.
The company, which has set up an exchange where people can contribute often
small amounts of money to fund projects like the film “Ai Weiwei: Never
Sorry” or the Pebble watch, said in a blog post Saturday and emails to
users that no credit-card data was compromised.
The data accessed included usernames, encrypted passwords, email and
mailing addresses and phone numbers, Chief Executive Yancey Strickler said
in the post.
Unauthorized activity occurred on two users’ accounts, the company said,
adding it had contacted those users. It recommended users change their
passwords at Kickstarter and other sites where they use the same password.
