The underlying and basic element of permaculture is design. I am a permie and a natural farmer because I utterly believe that NF can be made easier and more efficient through a well designed plot of land ie. where to site a windmill, a house, the regularly used plants and the lesser tended plants (just depends what seedballs you throw where.) etc. I also have some non-natural areas including raised beds but then I am sure I read that Fukuoka did too actually close to his house so I don't even judge myself on that.

I have been admonished for this belief in the past by NFers but I hold firm in it. Why create more work when you do not need to by simply designing things well. I believe the two sit beautifully together. You do not need to use the technology often expounded by permies or believe in all of the ideas of permaculture to see that it can be very useful in a NF environment. If you search on permies.com you will find lots of references to Fukuoka that might be interesting reading for members of this group. Some positive, some negative.

Lightness and acceptance is definitely the way. We can learn from all.

Cheers, Linda
