Dear Friends and Colleagues

New from Independent Science News:
America: Becoming a Land Without Farmers
by Evaggelos Vallianatos
at
http://independentsciencenews.org/

Synopsis:
The division of the United States of America into the 1% and the 99%
is not confined to cities and suburbs. The official statistics don't
readily show it but in rural America family farms continue to
disappear as increasingly food is produced by small numbers of very
large farms. The effects of this inequality are felt as a grave
economic crisis. The emerging rural economy is characterised by
depopulation, dilapidation, and a feudal social structure that is
fundamentally undemocratic.
