National Permaculture Day came out of APC9 in 2008 here in Oz, which
celebrated the 30th anniversary of publishing Permaculture One, the book that
got the movement going and generally considered the 'birth' of pc.
The first Sunday in May was chosen as it's close to (and sometime's falls on)
Bill M's birthday and it's a good time of year for open days, fairs etc, not
just in Oz but most parts of the world.
Each year more groups are getting local events happening and having the
dedicated day gives people the incentive and encouragement to come together
to create events and reach out to their local communities.
This year the group that's coordinating it would like to see the idea spread
and are calling it International Pc Day, and i think that was the initial
aspiration, first get it going nationally and grow it from there. The key
drivers are part of Permaculture Sydney North, perhaps the group could
present the idea to the next IPC.
