Hello Permaculture and SANET lists, a friend going to Haiti on a UN mission (as human rights lawyer) asked me about taking seeds to Haiti. Aside from commercial suppliers of seed, thoughts on this topic, resources for her here and there? I'm interested in advice on appropriate species, varieties, suppliers, resources...

I have a question for you, as you are my resident expert on everything farming related. So, the more I read about Haiti, the more I think that food security and malnutrition is a huge issue. Instead of bringing gum or candy or pencils to hand out to kids, i was thinking I want to bring seeds for them to start gardens. But I want to make sure I'm not bringing some GM seeds that will fuck up their ecosystem and be unsustainable. So, I guess I am curious if you have a resource or supplier for seeds that you might recommend. I would like to bring little packets - is that how real farmers get them?

let me know if you have any insight.

thanks,
