Hello All!

Sepp Holzer will arrive this Wednesday(!) and thus begin a busy few weeks of
lectures and workshops in mostly the South Sound area.
For Pierce County events go here:
http://www.divinearthgp.com/?page_id=88
For all of Western Wa, go here:
http://www.perma-dise.com/workshop_sepp_holzer_2009#schedule

After watching his Permaculture DVD for like six straight nights in a row,
I still
remain impressed. What he offers us permaculture folks, that is still rare
to find
in this area:
*irrigation-free production!
*free-ranging, always outdoors livestock in his food forests (remember,
this is in
the friggin' Alps!)
*microclimates for citrus production!
*abundant aquacultures without feed/outside inputs!
*grain production & harvesting amidst polycultures!
*harvesting polycultures for market!
*not to mention No Small Feat: his farm is *economically feasible* and
makes him a
good living! even before all this fame...
*plus much more...

Here are some updates about the events in Pierce County:
2/19 Lecture at Pt. Defiance Pagoda “Permaculture & Sustainability: Tools
of Empowerment for a Responsible, Natural Lifestyle”
http://www.divinearthgp.com/?page_id=186
Admittedly, the City of Destiny may be at quite a distance for many of
you. Thus, my
allies at Sustainable Tacoma-Pierce have kindly offered space for anyone
who'd like
to stay the night. Also, in true Tacoma fashion, we'll be welcoming Sepp
to Tacoma
with a few hip-hop rhymes by the group 2012. Then three hours of Sepp's
teachings.
It will be epic!

2/23 Workshop at Cheryl the Pig Lady's “Creating a Food Forest for
Integration with Livestock”
http://www.divinearthgp.com/?page_id=192
This topic is much discussed: how do you have food forests also incorporate
livestock in a beneficial way? Holzer will show us how to design, rotate
livestock,
and choose appropriate plants and animal breeds! Also, Cheryl is the
driving force
behind the south sound's USDA approved mobile Meat Project. There'll be a
wealth of
information at this workshop!

2/26 &27 Workshop at Mowich Mick's “Ponds on Sloping Land: Microclimates,
Microhydro, Aquaculture”
http://www.divinearthgp.com/?page_id=198
With special delight I introduce Mick's site to the permaculture community
and to
Sepp Holzer. Like Holzer, Mick has been building ponds, harvesting
electricity, and
creating microclimates in alpine slopes for many years. Holzer will be
showing how
to improve all these systems and how to assess a site for success from the
beginning. Sepp Holzer will feel at home in the stunning beauty and
production of
Mowich Way Ranch, as will all of you.

That's all I've got!
There are many more workshops also offered further south through
www.perma-dise.com
as well. Check them out too!
