some thoughts
toxins: there is an epidemic of cancer.. I think roughly 1 in 3 get
cancer... and this is proven to be because of man made toxins...
climate war: Lovelock and other scientists are talking about
sustainable retreat instead of sustainable development, its too late,
the survivalist movement is booming... good article in Christian
Science Monitor... do you think the current trends towards
totalitarian governments, militarisation, corporate control,
surveillance, police states etc will weaken as the climate gets worse
? more likely, as things get bad, so will oppression... I find it
amazing when I read environmentalists such as Climate Code Red, FOE
calling for a war like mobilization... naive at best
business of govermnent: we have a business run society, so generally
things happen because the managers and owners of industry want it....
the investment principle means no production system will get junked
until its fully depreciated... think coal power stations, oil powered
cars, etc.. and old chemicals.. we wont get new systems rolled out
until the old are decommissioned, even it pushes us over a tipping
point
conservationists: being green or environmentalist is almost a
meaningless term now.. its so broad, and varied its practically
useless... the environmental movement has focussed on single issues
and is unable to link all the issues facing society and has abandonded
utopian projects and holistic worldviews... i.e Marxism, global
democracy as in the UN chartr, etc and we have been continuing a
fascist trajectory... a war on nature and a free market.. all forms of
crude social Darwinism and eugenics
for me, permaculture is more than a gardening system, I find the
underdeveloped *by the Western permies* social, political and economic
permaculture to be the most interesting aspects..
this is why I am interested in the World Social Forum process, and how
that can combine with Gaia level permaculture
some solutions:
the climate war needs to be a war of liberation, a revolutionary war
against corporations, imperialism, tyranny, inequality and all other
forms of totalitarianism
the home front of the climate war needs to be fought over business as
usual scenarios... what Al Gore and Obama are proposing is a slightly
better run version of business as usual... carbon trading
*financialisation of global warming and soon other services like water
etc*, genetically modified organisms, geo-engineering, agribubess,
fossil fuels, nuclear, corporations, imperialism etc...
democracy needs to be extended to finance and industry and decision
making needs to be decentralised from corporations and centralised
governments..
permaculture needs to extended to social, economic, political,
financial systems...
permaculture needs to scale-up to bioregion *Transition Towns are
doing this", states and global level
the scale, complexity and pace of these reforms can only be described
as a global revolution
thats change we can believe in
