Is someone on the list able to take these ideas forward? A lot of what is
discussed below as ideas are way beyond me – and I'm pretty comfortable with
computers (but very behind on the latest technologies I guess!).
If it is simple for others to do (submi
t to someone to post to the world),
I think a visual active format really sells ideas to people well, but, I
just don't know how many ordinary people have these capabilities – if it is
an easy option for some people, great, go for it!

hi JC, all
I agree that the videos should be used to fund-raise for IPCON and the
IPCON website is central to that
I would suggest that video's be hosted on various servers, using social
network effects.. i.e post video's with watermarks and branding and donate
now links on YouTube, FaceBook, MySpace, Gaia.com, WiserEarth etc etc etc
indeed WiserEarth is probably the biggest permaculture social networking
site
by cross-posting to various social network sites you create a larger social
marketing profile for the IPCON.. you create a larger catchment surface area
for fundraising
I'd also like to be able to include the IP
CON videos on the
www.permaculture.tv website.
I am trying to create a single portal that promotes videos from all over
the permaculture movement.
I'd also suggest you think about using the permaculture.tv Mogulus
platforms live video interviewing system for raising the profile for
fundraising i.e. we could do a some interviews with the IPCON organisers in
the lead-up to the event
without the cooperation of the permaculture community, cooperative websites
like permaculture.tv will fail and we will be left with isolated,
marginalised websites that rely on links from gatekeeper websites like
Wikipedia and smaller blog sites and the whims of the corporate media.
I am merely proposing, that with cooperation from the permaculture
community, organically and naturally, permaculture.tv will become more and
more the resource for permaculture videos.. it certainly has been
well-received by general users, though no-doubt its going to be more
challenging negotiating with individual content holders
thats the concept and you can start to see the potential on the website now

Hi JC
Thank you for the explanation. I agree with the need to archive any
recordings on the IPC9 web site. We do not have any computer with either an
embedded or attached web cam yet.

Hi, Walter,
For your information, we already have the capability to post high-quality
video to the IPC9 website. Anyone with a video camera can record whatever
they like ... interviews, speakers, site presentations, etc. ... and I can
post the video
to the site. We presently don't have the capability to post live video,
but my sense
is that having the videos be live isn't very important. It's more
important to have
them recorded.
Note that anyone with high-speed Internet access can have a video
conference using
Apple computers with embedded video cams, using iChat (or with attached web
cams).
These conferences can also be recorded very easily.
I think its important that IPC9 video be hosted on the IPC9 website,
and for that video to be recorded and archived at the site. Having
the video on the IPC9 website will help draw the public to the site,
and that's where donations should be collected.
best,
JC

hi Penny (President of Permaculture North) and IPC Secretariat,
see below for some ideas on leveraging the media cooperative project
Permaculture.TV and the platform Mogulus for IPCON
I'd like to feature the IPCON on
www.Permaculture.TV<http://www.permaculture.tv/>.
See below on some examples on how that might work
We can get fol
ks from IPCON and other places around the world linked-up via
web-cams and have live TV.. perhaps video link-ups with permaculture groups
in Sydney and other places around the world, combined with fundraisers ?
forums ? questions and answers etc ? combine this with an online audience
and you have real community building ?
how to have multiple people colloborate for live broadcasts
http://www.mogulus.com/userguide/index.php/Set_up_your_team#Collaborate_for_live_broadcasts
I've just spent a month or so helping with the Nordic Organising Committe
in Sweden set-up and run the European Social Forum and I'd suggest it would
help engage folks in the long lead-up to IPCON and raise funds,
participants, quality of material etc if we could think about leverage the
www.Permaculture.TV <http://www.permaculture.tv/> product and the Mogulus
live TV platform.
http://openfsm.net/projects/australian-social-forum/blog/2008/09/25/european-social-forum/
Womans Conference 2008 http://www.mogulus.com/blog/?p=628
Broadcast Live
http://www.mogulus.com/userguide/index.php/Broadcast_live#Broadcast_live_from_your_Web_cam
Record Live
http://www.mogulus.com/userguide/index.php/Record_your_live_shows
Being an open colloborative platform, this could be a web-video tool for
IPCON and the permaculture movement at large. This is a media cooperative
project and it doesnt need gatekeepers or centralised control.
see below for some Permaculture.TV action items
- get a team to cover the International Permaculture Convergance in
Africa... it would be great to have an
ongoing link-up - online interviews,
live forums - and a kind of reality tv (real-life tv) over 2009... then
set-up a permaculture.tv tent or operation in Africa for the event for
folks that cant be there

Subject: Permaculture TV - Rough Draft Next Steps
To: pil-pc-oceania@lists.permacultureinternational.org
hi Terry
my approach for the summer is to struggle through with a modest
proof-of-concept - with no budget and no worries - using basic equipment.
Scouting out groups and sites with basic, consumer equipemnt (i.e 100
camera, 500 video, 400 audio) and do samples. Then follow-up with a DVD
quality production crew with proper video etc in the new year.
thanks for the kind words regarding
www.Permaculture.TV<http://www.permaculture.tv/>-
'd like to thankyou for the encouragement and support - you practically
started me thinking there was real interest in this...
last night the good folks at Permaculture North Sydney where kind enough to
hear me talk for a few minutes at the end of an excellent members
show-and-tell, and it gave me further encouragement and insight into next
steps
some ideas and action items that come to mind from last night - need to
further define, order, priotise, delegate, cost & fund
- set-up a radio/video production system in the Octapod's community media
space - Wed 19th that starts
- set-up a stab
le long term server environment - researching hosting
providers, platforms, tools etc
- researching production systems and product examples - OpenPlans,
LivableStreets, World Social Forum (OpenFSM), European Social Forum
(OpenESF), Indy Media Greece (Indy.gr), MyBarackObama, Engage Media
- get to Jude & Michel Byron Seedsavers and help them with their web
strategy and hopefully gather some videos
- get to Robyn Francis's Nimbin permaculture school and film and gather
some video's of here work, travels, especially focussing on the Cuban
experience
- work with Permaculture North to make permaculture propaganda video's for
education, organisation and activism: documenting their excellent social and
organisational permaculture. They have an amazing catalgue of grass-roots
success stories.
- make a single Permaculture.TV promotional package before Christmas... use
that to start a number of story lines for next year
- set-up other nodes of operation in Sydney, Melbourne, Northern NSW, South
East Queensland, South Coast NSW and Canberra.. again tapping existing
Permaculture Groups
- use My.BarackObama as an example of purpose-driven social network
websites i.e content items around people, groups, networks, projects, tasks.
- get a team to cover the International Permaculture Convergance in
Africa... it would be great to have an ongoing link-up - online interviews,
live forums - and a kind of reality tv (real-life tv) over 2009... then
set-up a permaculture.tv tent or operation in Africa for the event f
or
folks that cant be there
- make Permaculture TV story lines or shows - that could be onsold to
community radio, tv and public broadcasters, DVDs and even (god forbid)
commercial media (at a fee) - obvious ideas; Permaculture in Schools,
Permaculture Homes, Streets, Suburbs, Community Gardens, Permaculture Groups
and Networks, Permaculture Teachers etc etc
- set-up task & project management system - Trac
- set-up membership management system - CivicCRM
- set-up web content management systems - Drupal (Scald), WordPress, Plone
(OpenCore, Plumi)
- set-up social planning systems - OpenPlans (OpenCore on Plone)
- set-up social video system - Plumi (Plone)
- develop training package / course for Permaculture Media that could be
used by community and permaculture groups to plug-in to this media ecology
- develop integrated portal for website siblings;
http://CoopAustralia.org<http://coopaustralia.org/>,
http://EcoBurb.TV <http://ecoburb.tv/>,
http://WorkCooperatives.com<http://workcooperatives.com/>
and so on
I'll be moving these tasks to a web-based task management system and will
be using that to structure online colloboration
I apologise for exposing folks to the technical details of this, thinking
out loud
anyway, cheers again
