I'm about 10% through the book (on the link) and I'm only racking up
more questions.

So there was something mentioned earlier about building soil quickly,
as opposed to just conserving it.

My memory of reading about keyline in the past is to use that plow to
encourage draining water to go slightly downhill to places where there
might not be much water - take it from the valleys to the exposed
hilltops. It does seem like a system that will keep water on the land
longer. With more water plants will live longer, or have less summer
dormancy, and, therefore, create more organic matter. Is this the
general idea?

G'day,

I trust that this greets you and all well.

Thanks Larry. I would suggest that the best book I have read on Keyline
Design was written in 1958 (I think) by Professor J. MacDonald Holmes (then
Dean of Geography Faculty of University of Sydney called "The Geographical
Basis of Keyline". This book is out of print - though it can be found for
download (thank goodness!) at
http://www.yeomansplow.com.au/basis-of-keyline.htm . For the record all of
the other P.A. Yeomans books are available for reading at
www.soilandhealth.org.au . Finally www.keyline.com.au (Ken Yeomans website)
has his book "Water for Every Farm" available in hardcopy or as an E-book.

Lacking a more complete understanding of the Keyline process I was using the
word Keyline
losely. Certainly there is little relation between rice terraces and Keyline
systems.

Thanks for the wonderful introductory treatise on Keyline.
