YORK
Following severe flooding in Delaware county and
beyond we hope that applying permaculture priniciples
may mitigate flood damage in future - this will be the
thrust of the Hancock Course.

Learn how to obtain energy, food and shelter by
following nature’s patterns. Soft energy alternatives,
grow food, harvest water, turn waste into profit,
become part of the world-wide permaculture community.

PERMACULTURE DESIGN CERTIFICATE COURSE - MANHATTAN
Just Food and Hancock Permaculture Center. Manhattan,
Fall 2006.

Just Food, a non-profit organization working to
develop a just and sustainable food system in the New
York City region by fostering new marketing and
food-growing opportunities http://www.justfood.org/jf/
and the Hancock
Permaculture Center, an educational
outreach organization dedicated to developing
sustainable solutions as we enter peak oil and climate
change http://www.hancockpermaculture.org/ are
collaborating on a modular permaculture design
certificate course this fall.

The course will be held at Just Food in Manhattan over
five weekends (Saturday, Sunday - 9am-5:30pm): October
14, 21, 28 and November 11,18. The course will take
place at Just Food, 210 East 51st Street, Manhattan.
There will also be local urban field visits.

Permaculture is one of the fastest growing
environmental movements on the planet and is an
integrated method of using land and resources in ways
that sustain the environment while providing economic
and lifestyle benefits to individuals and communities.
The Permaculture Design Certificate Course (PDC)
presents an introduction to permaculture as set forth
by Australian legend Bill Mollison, founder of the
permaculture movement. www.tagari.com. Graduates
receive the official permaculture design certificate.

The course comprises five week-end units covering the
official permaculture curriculum including application
of permaculture principles to habitat, energy,
landscape, water harvesting and flood control,
gardening and food production, alternative economic
structures and legal strategies supporting
permaculture solutions. Dwindling oil reserves,
climate change, food and health issues in current
political context will be examined. Permaculture
offers positive solutions in an uncertain world.
Credit for the 72-hour course is accepted by a growing
number of universities in the U.S. and abroad.

Cost: $200 per weekend. Total cost of course is $1,000
(72 hours instruction). A deposit of $200 is required
to ensure a place in the course. Checks should be made
out to Hancock Permaculture Center. Couples receive
25% discount - so find someone to bring and pay less!

activist working in Brooklyn, NY. Her diploma in
Permaculture is based on her work at Oakland Botanical
Demonstration Gardens.
Ethan Roland: Specializes in designing and planting
locally adapted Food Forests, especially to
reinvigorate aging or abandoned fruit orchards. Ethan
spent a year traveling the world studying the global
diversity of apples.

Global Village Institute
for Appropriate Technology since 1984 and the
