Marjory,
I have had some experience with tagasaste. In Western Australia it grows like a weed.
It's a good nitrogen fixer and grows quickly. Also good for bee fodder. Stock don't usually like it when it is flowering. It can be cut back severly and will grow back. Good nurse tree as can be cut back to allow sun or grown up to provide shelter.
Propagate by scarifying seed (pour boiling water over them until they swell) and plant into pots which will allow for the growth of a long tap-root (tubes - eg. PVC / milk cartons). I have also grown tagasaste from hardwood cuttings.

Hello Everyone,
I live in Central Texas and I am investigating using Tagasate for cattle,
and I suppose it goes without saying, for the deer too (as they eat
everything). I've read a bit about the plant, and am especailly interested
in its ability to survive on as low as 10" per year rainfall. I am trying
to see how it could fit into our homestead, or possibly in helping to
restore adjoining abused land. If anyone has any experiences with this
plant and its uses I would greatly appreciate hearing about it.
I have a small amount of seeds and if you have any experience starting or
propagating please add that in.
Sincerely,
Marjory.
