There is a new group that has been formed here in Texas in response to
the NAIS issue. The Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance (FARFA) is actively
involved in fighting the NAIS in Texas and is gearing up to fight the
issue across the country. I urge you to learn more about this group and
support their efforts. Go to http://www.farmandranchfreedom.org/

I bring FARFA up because it is the intention of this group to become the
legal defense fund for many kinds of independent farmers across the
country that occasionally need help with these kinds of things.

It may be that this group could approach farm membership in much the
same way that the homeschoolers have done to fight for their respective
rights to teach their children at home. For a $100 membership the farmer
gets legal representation if and when they ever need it, all for the
cost of the $100 yearly dues to the their legal defense fund. All they
have to do when they're farming operation is in jeapardy is call the
legal defense fund and request legal help.

According to Sally Fallon in the latest issue of AcresUSA, there are
over 1 million homeschoolers that contribute $100 per year into this
fund, giving them 100 million dollars per year to fight for their right
to home school.

I know this does not help this farmer right now. But this type of
organization could help many, many farmers in the future.

Betsy, let's talk. I'll see how TOFGA might be able to help.

*Subject:* [SANET-MG] Vandalized mushroom farmer needs help

*Hello all - *
**
*One of the businesses we certify, an organic mushroom farmer here
in Texas, is going through a terrible time, and I'm hoping someone
on the list may have advice about resources, agriculture advocacy
agencies, etc. This farmer's industrial air-conditioning units were
recently vandalized. The thieves damaged the units beyond repair in
order to steal about $100 worth of copper inside. *
**
*The insurance company won't cover the air conditioners because they
weren't actually stolen. The farmer can't operate without the AC,
can't afford to replace them at the moment, and is unable to make
her mortgage. She is afraid she's going to lose the farm after 16
years in business. *
**
*Does anyone know of someone who can argue with the insurance
company on this? any emergency funds for innovative farmers? *
**
*Any help is greatly appreciated - *
