Carey A. Reams (1904-1987) was a man ahead of his time. Trained in
mathematics, biophysics, and biochemistry he made
many discoveries in the fields of human health, plant growth, energetics,
animal health, and soil restoration. These
findings were later codified in an overall view of life and energy known as
Reams Biological Theory of Ionization
(RBTI). Reams summarized his beliefs by saying:

"God is the basis of life, life is the basis of energy,
energy is the basis of matter."


Throughout more than 5 decades Reams worked as a consultant, researcher, and
lecturer. A significant milestone in Reams'
life occurred in 1931. During a period of prayer and fasting Reams received a
divine revelation of the biochemistry
numbers for humans in perfect health.

Foundational for Reams' life and success as a scientist was his faith in God.
As a disciple of Jesus he sought to live
his life according to the biblical standard. He began every day of lectures
with morning devotions and always encouraged
his students to follow biblical precepts. Reams emphasized that the major
distinction between Christianity and any other
religion is Christ's empty grave. No other religion has an empty grave.

As a mathematical genius Reams was very familiar with Einstein's energy
equation and understood its significance. During
his many years of friendship with Albert Einstein he once chided him saying
'you know how to take matter apart but you
don't know how to put it back together again.' Einstein immediately shot back
that figuring out how to do that was a job
for Reams.

According to Reams, "Ionization is God's laws putting things together and taking
them apart ion by ion." Dave Larson, a
student of Reams and Skow, put it this way; "Biological Ionization is the
study of how energy becomes matter and how
matter becomes energy on a continuous basis." According to Reams, RBTI offers
a way to measure the energy in elements,
compounds, and biological systems including humans. The loss of energy in
humans is the beginning of disease. More

Ream's contribution to agriculture was just as significant as his
contribution to human health. Reams taught that the
functional foundation of nature is electromagnetic and that the chemistry of
nature is secondary. Reams applied this
concept to plant growth. He maintained that plants grow through the process
of ionization-similar to an electroplating
machine. Likewise soil fertilization is done from an electromagnetic
perspective as well. This is done by balancing the
positive and negative charges. Fertilizers are viewed as energy packages used
to build and balance the electromagnetic
field of the soil. The minerals in the fertilizers carry specific energy
forms. These energy packages (fertilizers)
react with opposing charges in the soil during the process of
synchronization. This synchronization of opposite charges
provides a release of energy, which drives plant growth. More information on

Food Quality & Health: The Carey Reams Approach

Foods vary tremendously in nutrient density and quality. This is easily confirmed by our body’s own internal refractometer; our sense of taste. We all like sweeter carrots, cherries, tomatoes, watermelons, etc. We instinctively prefer sweeter produce. This is significant because in addition to having higher carbohydrates (natural plant sugars), these foods also have higher mineral density and a greater spectrum of trace minerals. Lower-quality produce has poorer taste, lower carbohydrates and lower mineral density and spectrum. This explains why people eating low-quality foods have such a large appetite. The body is desperate for minerals and to satisfy its mineral requirement more food is consumed. This leads to the observation that such people are overfed and undernourished. High-quality foods produce a stronger sense of satisfaction or fullness after eating a smaller portion.
Let’s begin with two basic questions:
1. What is food?
2. What is its function in the human body?
These questions sound strange because they address issues so basic, we seldom give them much thought. Is food something that is just chewed and swallowed in order to relieve us of that gnawing pain in our stomachs? No, it is much, much more.
Food is a complete package designed to provide the human body with a balance of minerals, carbohydrates, vitamins, proteins, enzymes and various other properties such as oils, phytonutrients and antioxidants. It takes all of these elements in foods — and many more, collectively called nutrition — to be in balance in order for the human body to be properly nourished.
Food provides the nutrition our bodies need in order to live, grow, reproduce, and regain our health. Sadly, much of the food consumed today does not provide this balance of nutrition. When this happens health begins to falter and disease nips at the heels.
Some interesting research that came out of Europe during World War II supports this concept. Prior to the war, researchers were observing food purchasing habits of families and monitoring each family’s health. When the war hit Europe, the economy declined and food prices became much higher. The researchers assumed the families would buy lower-quality produce since it was cheaper. Instead, most families used whatever means they had to buy smaller quantities of the highest-quality foods they could find. The researchers were surprised to find that even though the families buying the highest-quality foods were clearly underfed, they remained in amazingly good health. The other families that had purchased lower- quality foods had sufficient to eat, but due to its poorer nutrition, suffered in the level of their health by the end of the war.
This philosophy of eating the highest quality of fruits and vegetables is still practiced in some parts of Europe and Japan today. Would you believe that the very best quality fruit grown in America today is not even consumed in America? It is exported and eaten by Europeans and the Japanese.
The quality of produce can be graded based upon its reading on a refractometer. The refractometer is a device that measures dissolved minerals and plant sugars, or “Total Dissolved Solids.” Credit for the concept of grading produce quality goes to Carey Reams. Arden Andersen further refined this concept to parallel the grading scale used by educational institutions. In Andersen’s scale, produce is categorized in grades A, B, C, D and E, with grade A being excellent and near-perfect and grade E being a total failure. The original chart compiled by Carey Reams, Dan Skow and Charles Walters only listed grades A-D. Let’s look at each grade in ascending order.

Reams was an MD who cured many people,
running cancer clinics at various times. That
fact got him in trouble with FDA. The medical
establishment still shuns cancer centers
that use holistic approaches instead of standard
radiation and chemotherapy treatments.
Later Carey Ream became an agricultural advisor to
help farmers raise nutrient dense foods so people
don't get sick in the first place. He developed
the Brix charts that show Poor, Average, Good,
and Excellent levels of soluble solids in fruits
and vegetables, and he showed farmers how to
use soil and foliar fertilization practices to raise
excellent quality crops, thus providing greater
value to the consumer.
He used the LaMotte Soil Test kit with its weak
Morgan extract, preferring it over the stronger soil
test extracts, saying that it mimics weak acids from
roots rather than "mining" the soil. He showed
farmers how to take their own tests throughout
the growing season and make fertility adjustments,
accordingly. This became known as the Reams test. He also used the electrical conductivity meter in
a unique way, viewing the data as a measurement
of soil energy.

The Reams Biological Theory of Ionization does
indeed deal with the energetics of soil-crop
systems, paying attention to fertilizer schemes
that promote vegetative and fruiting stages of
crop growth. The urine-salive test that was
mentioned in Quackwatch was a biological terrain
measurement devised by Reams, based on RBTI.

If you can raise tomatoes and melons that taste
better, have fewer/few/incidental pests, and provide
enhanced nutritional benefits all because you manage
the crop with soil and foliar fertilizers based on
concepts and practices developed by Reams,
and others in eco-farming, does that spark an interest?

There's plenty to explore if you're curious.
For perspective, a common Reams approach was
the use of limestone, poultry manure, and rock phosphate,
accompanied by selected fertilizers and foliar fertilizers,
all based on a soil test, as well as monitoring soils with the EC meter and plants with a Refractometer.
