The 2006 Program at Djanbung Gardens
Permaculture Education Centre, NSW Australia
offers a range of courses for developing advanced permaculture skills.
These short intensive and part-time courses are part of the APT (Accredited
Permaculture Training) program at Djanbung Gardens in Certificates III & IV
and Diploma of Permaculture. These courses are designed for those who have
already completed a PDC

March 2006 there will be a cluster of intensive short courses to launch the
new training year:
Ecovillage & Sustainable Community Design, March 9-15
Advanced Design Skills, March 16-17
Plants in Permaculture, March 20-22
Ecovillage & Sustainable Communities Design
This course lays the foundation for APT diploma studies, providing a
comprehensive introduction to 7 units in the Diploma of Permaculture (a
total of 10 are required). Completion of the units addressed in the course
can be undertaken in several ways:
- full-time studies (Austudy eligible) 2-3 semester program of ongoing
training, project work and workplace experience to complete the full diploma
- part-time studies, following the course undertake further research and
assessment projects in your local area with mentoring and assessment support
to completed diploma requirements
- RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) a) previous work and experience can
be assessed and appropriate credits awarded towards relevant units in both
full and part-time courses, complete units of competency through ongoing
course work
a) Full qualification RPL: assessment will take into account knowledge and
skills gained through the course plus previous work and experience, and
identify areas which require further project work or experience to attain
competency prior to final RPL assessment.
NB completion (or RPL) for APT Certificate IV core units is a prerequisite
for Diploma studies

Advanced Design Skills
Learn how to draw plans, drafting and graphic presentation skills for
professional design, concept plans and detail drawing, develop a client
brief and client communications the skills learned in this course are
essential for Cert IV in Pc and Diploma. This course is perfect for anyone
who has completed a PDC and is interested in pursuing design and consulting
work, and for existing Pc designers who need further skills training to draw
and present their designs in a professional way.
Plants in Permaculture
Introduction to botany, plant identification, vegetable families,
propagation methods and exploration of the roles and functions of plants in
permaculture systems. This course addresses basic botany and plant knowledge
for Cert III (and Cert IV). Also ideal for those who¹ve completed a PDC and
want to fast-track their confidence and knowledge of plants.

Growing Abundance: Organic Plant Production in Permaculture
March 20 - Aug 28 (APT Cert III-IV)
A comprehensive part-time course to gain knowledge and skills to plan and
manage permaculture & organic plant based production systems including
vegetables, herbs, spices, craft plants, fruit & nut trees, natives,
bushfoods, aquatic plants, animal forage etc. Also covers harvest,
post-harvest, storage, processing, preserving and crafting, garden & orchard
design.
Cost: Full 108 hr course discounted fee: $830/ $695
NB these modules form part of the Full-time Cert III and Cert IV program

This part-time APT Cert III - 18 day Course (108 hours) Commences with 3-day
Workshop (Mon, Tues, Wed, Mar 20-22) and continues 1-day per week over 3
school terms. Classes: Tuesdays 9am-5pm
This is part of the APT Cert III-IV training and includes all the following
short course modules (NB each of these short courses modules can also be
taken individually)

Integrated Herb & Vegetable Production
Bushfoods & Restoration Ecology (C3-4)
Post Harvest - Storing & Preserving Crops
Food Forests & Orchards

The full Growing Abundance course addresses the skills and knowledge
requirements for assessment of the following units of competency:
PIL305A Co-ordinate a permaculture crop regulation program
PIL306A Coordinate use of weedy plants in a permaculture system
PIL313A Coordinate preparation and storage of permaculture products.
PIL312A Plan organic garden and orchard systems
RTC3404A Control plant pests, diseases and disorders
NB Assessment and Issuance of a Statement of Competency will incur an
additional fee
The above Growing Abundance short courses can also contribute to achieving
additional units in Certificate III and some Certificate IV units, depending
on the individual¹s experience and unit requirements. This training is
highly recommended for people looking to do a Cert IV in Permaculture,
either before or concurrent with Cert IV studies
