Dear Supporter of a Farm Friendly Food System:
If you are a producer or consumer of quality local farm products, you
undoubtedly already know about LOCAL HARVEST (www.localharvest.org), the
efficient on-line database that mates local producers with local families.
If you are like me, you've probably have benefited greatly from Local
Harvest but have probably never paid a dime for it's services, either as
a buyer or a seller. You also may have wondered how "they" do it, how
they afford to provide this service, since the database does not slam
you with commercial messages to produce revenue. It turns out, there is
no "they," Š.there is only the visionary activist and software
developer, Guillermo Payet, conceiving, producing and maintaining this
inspired project through his own sacrifice and hard work. Alone, he has
brought many customers to small farms all over the country and has
contributed substantially to the effectiveness of the local food
movement. We found out that Guillermo had exhausted his personal savings
while working on Local Harvest and has had to go back to work for
someone else to keep a roof over his head, while continuing to support
and develop Local Harvest.
The event described below is intended to bring some funds into Local
Harvest so that Guillermo can hire some office help With the time he
gains, Local Harvest will undoubtedly serve the Local Food community
even better, making a better world for all of us.
I know that $150 is a bit steep of a donation for most of us farmers. I
also know that if you are reading this note, you are interested in
supporting Guillermo and Local Harvest any way that you can. I'm
suggesting is that you forward this invitation to your mailing lists, or
display it at your market, or hang it up in your food co-op. I think
most anyone involved in local food as a producer has a mailing list that
contains the names of people who can afford this sort of event and would
both enjoy and benefit from attending it. I'm asking you, on behalf of
all of us who are working to create a new food system, to make sure that
your friends and customers know about this event.
It is important to me that you know that, aside from the expense of the
food, it's preparation and related overhead, all proceeds from this
event will go to Local Harvest.
If you are unable to attend, but would like to support this event and
Local Harvest, you can donate what you are comfortable with to a
scholarship fund (referenced by the link below) which will allow some
DC-area farm interns to attend this event.
If you need anything from me, you can reach me at (304) 876-3382 or
