When the rabbits are in this pen, they have a floor of chicken wire. They
can eat the grasses, but can't dig out.

I know of an area that is natural for rabbits. The person dug a trench
around where the rabbits would be, put in material so they could not dig
out, dumped a load of dirt inside, put a fence around it to keep other
animals out. Grasses and other plants grew on this mound. The rabbits were
introduced, and dug into the mound. He does not do anything, other than
making sure water is plentiful, and checking for sick ones. They have their
babies, run around, over, and through their mound. Of course, one cannot
have a garden in with them!
