using indigenous microorganisms and bionutrients to improve productivity and increase soil health and crop yield.

whole day workshop, saturday, jan. 31 at: everett and daughters farm
2111 old san jose road
soquel, ca. 95073
soquel is in the santa cruz, california area.

for centuries, farmers in india, korea, japan and the philippines have been harvesting the indigenous microorganisms (IMO's) found in nature and using them to improve soil health and crop yield. now the techniques have been adapted to modern organic farming, and for the first time they are being introduced into the united states. you could be among the first to benefit from the ongoing transfer of knowledge.

gil carandang, a farmer, environmental activist, and specialist in IMO techniques from the philippines will begin the whole day workshop with a discussion of the basic theory of IMO. a hands-on session will then demonstrate how to collect and grow your own indigenous microorganisms and bionutrients from natural sources on and around your farm, and how to apply them to increase yields and reduce problems on your farm.

the workshop is a follow-up to mr. carandang's highly popular seminars at the ecofarm conference last year and this year. it will focus on practical, low cost applications of IMO in growing vegetables, flowers, herbs, orchard fruits, livestock and even aquaculture.

gil will demonstrate how to collect microorganisms that already exist in the woodlands, streams and wild areas near your farms, and how to steep and ferment them to produce a soil enhacement and/or foliar spray that will build healthier soil, generate stronger plant growth and productivity, and reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers or pesticides. fermentation demonstrations will include the use of plant, animal and mineral substrates and the microbes that grow upon them. included will be cultures of lacto bacilli, forest beneficial microbes, plant specific microbes, rhizobium nitrogen fixing bacteria, bionutrients, fish amino acids, calcium phosphate extracts, plant fermented extracts, ginger garlic extract, designer compost (bokashi) and more. all these substances can be used on your farm, ranch or vineyard without the purchase of any products other than simple bases like rice, molasses and alcohol. a workbook will be provided. a wed search for "indigenous microorganisms" will also yield more information on IMO's.
