hey Darren et al.
a very exciting development - and to be achieved in such a short period of
time!
having spent time as a trainer and assessor in the TAFE sector here in
australia this style of education suits permaculture principles and ethics.
it is a system that acknowledges we learn in many different ways, and while
courses are delivered in a range of things - it promotes on-the-job
learning and practical experiences and ongoing, lifelong learning. in
essence it holds experience above any piece of paper you may hold....
i would stress current trainers need not be concerned with the need to
obtain Cert IV in Workplace Training and Assessment. as stated in the press
release the process for Recognition of Current Competency (or Recognition
of Prior Learning (RPL)) is not a difficult one.
i do have a few questions about the 'roll out' process - which i am sure is
forthcoming and people are working on now.
currently in the TAFE sector to deliver any accredited course (which i
gather will include permaculture) you need to be a Registered Training
Organisation. again - not an very complex process - but for those of you
delivering courses through your properties/businesses etc... this may be
something that impacts on you - unless PIL becomes a registered training
organisation and trainers/businesses need to be members to deliver...
i'm not sure if this forum is the appropriate place to discuss such issues
- but no doubt the PIL crew (as do most identifiable permaculturalists)
read it...so perhaps some of this will be made clear.
i would like to congratulate those form PIL involved and this may be a
significant step in the development of the permaculture movement. with
David's new book contributing greatly to the theory, the obvious resources
that will need to be developed to support the Accredited Permaculture
Training (APT) and the continued shift in global consciousness away from
consumption and capitalist tendencies...
this accredited training will certainly support the concept of people
trained in a range of specialist areas being able to complete a certificate
that will allow them to incorporate permaculture into their work and lives
(and it being national recognised)!
cheers
