I know a guy who was doing VR programming at Melbourne Uni under
contract for some govt agency.
I forget who.

But, anyway, he was doing a VR setup of, I think, the Otways Ranges,
based on satellite data. Super-highly accurate.

Why?

Well, the grand plan was to use realtime feeds from satellites to
provide data on forests the agency was managing. The idea being that
eventually you'd be able to fly down to the forest in VR, *and check the
health of individual trees* as it was more cost-effective than paying,
um, foresters I guess to wander around having a look.

As in zoom in on individual trees, which would be rendered based on soil
quality data, rainfall data etc.

I was boggled, but hey, that's our taxes at work :)
