Councils asked to ban plastic shopping bags
Two Tasmanian councils will be asked to consider taking the first steps in banning plastic shopping bags from their municipalities.
Alderman Jeff Briscoe will tonight ask Hobart City Council to consider putting together a report into available options.
And Alderman Deidre Wilson from Clarence City Council will be pushing for a community forum on the issue to be held within the next two months.
"I would assume it [the forum] would have guest participants such as those from Planet Ark and Coles Bay," Alderman Wilson said.
"Community members, local businesses and people from the greater Hobart area can learn more about what's been going on from people in other areas."
