They're predators and take other insects on the wing. They are among the
best flyers in the known universe (try catchng one!) The best way that
dragon flies can be helped is through the availbility of good freshwater
ponds and streams. They go through a larval stage and produce a nymph
stage that lives at the bottom of pools. These nymphs are very un-nymph
like voracious armour plated minature monsters that eat other water
insects.etc.
So having a good freshwater ecosystem is rather critical to their
survivl.
