Subject: the farm as natural habitat

Greetings, SANET!

Here's a great new book out from Land Stewardship Project and
Island Press: The Farm as Natural Habitat: Reconnecting Food Systems
and
Ecosystems.

Press release from LSP, including ordering
information: http://www.misa.umn.edu/Other/swineprogram.html

The book was co-edited by Dana Jackson of the Land Stewardship
Project, and her daughter, Laura Jackson, professor at U. of Northern
Iowa. It includes chapters by Nick Jordan, weed ecology professor at
U. of
Minnesota; and George Boody, LSP's executive director. The book
profiles
several farms, including that of Dave Minar, a MISA board member.

The Farm as Natural Habitat follows LSP's earlier publication
of
the Multiple Benefits of Agriculture study (available on MISA's Forum
page,
www.misa.umn.edu and click on "Forum"). These are excellent resources
that
counter the myth that agriculture and wildlife habitat are mutually
exclusive.
