Title: California permaculture workshop
One-Day Permaculture Workshop in Northern California
with Toby Hemenway
at the Real Goods Solar Living Center
Hopland, California
Sunday, April 14

Learn the basics of creating a backyard ecosystem that offers food, flowers, and inspiration for people while supporting wildlife as well. This workshop covers permaculture principles, building healthy soil, water conservation and harvesting, designing a forest garden, using multi-purpose plants and more. A hands-on project will illustrate applying permaculture principles in design.

The Real Goods Solar Living Center is a 12-acre demonstration site fully powered by sun and wind, and features a 5000 square-foot straw bale store with innovative passive solar design and the creative use of recycled materials. The beautiful landscape is a permaculture design with a wide selection of organic edible and ornamental plants, large ponds, and numerous interactive exhibits that showcase renewable energy and sustainable living technologies. It is located in Hopland, California, 94 miles north of San Francisco on Highway 101.

Toby Hemenway is the author of Gaia's Garden: A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture (Chelsea Green, 2001; http://www.chelseagreen.com/Garden/GaiasGarden.htm).
He is associate editor of Permaculture Activist, a leading journal of ecological design. He teaches workshops across North America, and his work has been published in Whole Earth Review, Natural Home, American Gardener, and other national magazines.
