How to Save the World by Teaching Permaculture?

An Advanced Permaculture Teacher’s Training Course
at Laakea Gardens in Hawaii

7 days. March 17. - 23. 2002 (Arrival March 16th/Departure March 24th)
Contribution: US$700 per person including accommodation and vegetarian meals.

This Permaculture Teacher’s Course introduces a revolutionary new way of
teaching permaculture – we apply the principles of permaculture to the
teaching of permaculture. We will cover every aspect of being an exciting and
effective educator. Some of what you will learn:

* Building confidence through practice and supportive critique – everyone
will have several opportunities to teach in this workshop, to see themselves
on film and improve in a supportive environment.
* Teaching methods that work – you will learn at least 5 new teaching
techniques, and probably develop some new creative ideas of your own! These
innovative teaching methods work, and they teach permaculture while modeling
permaculture principles.
* A simple technique to help you prepare quickly and thoroughly. We will
cover the preparation techniques that professional teachers and consultants
use to quickly organize their thoughts and materials.
* Practice makes perfect – you will teach during this course, and you will
improve as a teacher with the help of the supportive environment that all of
us will create.
* You will have fun! Michael and Christopher are well known as fun and
effective educators. They are known around the world as practical
permaculture pranksters. Both have committed their lives to Earth Care, but
like to have fun doing it! Bring a funny permaculture related joke to the
workshop and receive a special prize!

The powerful teaching techniques you will learn in this course were gleaned
from years of permaculture teaching wisdom from experienced permaculture
teachers around the globe. In 1999, this knowledge was published by
Permaculture Drylands Institute as A Permaculture Curriculum, which provides
detailed suggestions on how to organize and contextualize permaculture
learning experiences that are more meaningful and interesting than lectures.

This course is taught by Michael Kramer and Christopher Peck, who have more
than 20 years of combined permaculture experience.

Michael has a Masters Degree in Education and was the Executive Director of
Permaculture Drylands Institute, and of Youth Ecology Corps, an innovative
youth-based permaculture education program.

Christopher was Curriculum Director of Permaculture Drylands Institute and
the author of Developing the Art of Teaching: Guidelines to Effective
Facilitation and A Permaculture Curriculum, pioneering works that apply
natural systems thinking to the teaching process. They last taught this
course together in 1999, and are back by popular demand.

The prerequisite for this course is a certified Basic Permaculture Design
Course. Course attendees will be eligible for Permaculture Teacher
Certification.
