Subject: Question from SA

Hi,
I'm from South Africa. In about 2 weeks time a group of from our church are going to the CIskei. We would love to see the folk living in the rural villages creating some income for themselves. We have plans of a shop etc in the future. However I see as the best place to start getting them motivated to growing their own veggies etc.

I've been surfing around the net for ages now looking under Permaculture but what I'me after is a simple step by step approach on preparing a trench garden. I'm obviously not looking in quite the right places. I believe you take an area about the size of a front door and dig and fill with tine and waste. Once ready one plans a variety of vegetables. Could you give me some more specific info. We want to use this as a team building exercise and then hopefully enabling them to get excited about growing first of all their families and maybe going bigger at some stage.

I would really appreciate your help
Sue Fellingham
