Hi Mike
Sent your message on to Jim in Alaska - this is his reply.

Joan,
no not true. The only thing that is happening is the fish resources are
dwindling, but that is happening all over the world due to over fishing by
the Japanese, and a couple of other nations.
One of the things that is taken very seriously is conservation here. You
might be surprised that the number one conservationist is the oil companies.
All of their vehicles carry a plastic pan to put under the engine so that
won't even put a drop of oil on the tundra.
If there is any global warming you couldn't prove it by me, and this winter.
We set a record for snow last month. It is also far colder this year then
last.
See ya,
Jim

Hi Jim

Have a friend in Ireland very interested in ecology who sent this message
recently - have you any comments.

Joan

warming. I have read and also had some confirmation that the permafrost has
melted and that houses have sunk as a result. That migration has changed,
fish species have moved and others have taken their place, and that the
brown bear has moved further north and displaced the polar bear. the
migrations have changed and hibernation is later.

an e mail to say that an article also occured in the New Scientist.
