It's a bit crowded these days to use bushes, most places (no bushes on the
Siberian steppe, either, but that's really a cultural modesty issue rather
than a practical matter... ;-). There are plenty of low-tech "solid waste"
composting toilet options, though - the double-vault, the sunny john, the
Humanure 5-gal. bucket, etc. etc. All eliminate the need for a septic tank
or a marsh capable of handling "black water."

Just don't mix humanure with (grey or potable) water and there'll only be
greywater to deal with.
