Thatching Workshop
April 17-28, 1998
taught by Danish Master Thatcher,
Flemming Abrahamsson

This unique 12-day experiential workshop will include:

*Learning basic skills of the traditional craft of
thatching
* How to: Select and prepare thatched material
Design a thatched roof
Apply the material to ground-level frame
* Supervised thatching on the roof
* Evening programs with slides and videos on
historical and current thatching,
natural building and sustainable living

The THATCHING SITE is on lovely wooded rural land in Northern Oakland
County, one hour above Detroit, Michgan. Thatching will take place on what
will be one of Michigan's first Strawbale/Cob structures. This solar-
oriented studio is "in progress" and currently has a beautiful log frame Dutch
roof with a sculptual fieldstone knee wall. Strawbale walls, cob interior
elements and an earthen floor will be added in the late spring through summer.

The INSTRUCTOR, Flemming Abrahamsson, coming from Denmark for this
workshop, is not only a delightful and skilled teacher, but brings a wealth
of experience in such areas as design and construction, masonry fireplaces and
composting toilets . An assistant thatcher from Denmark will also be
helping.

There is a limit of 10 openings.
Send in your non-refundable $150 deposit to hold your place.


FEE OPTIONS:
A balance of $900 is due by the final deadline of April 1,
1998
10% DISCOUNT: The balance due is $800 if paid by March 1,
1998
15% DISCOUNT: The balance due is $750 if paid by February
1, l998

All prices include workshop, printed materials, plus two
meals per day.
On-site camping space available. Average April temperature: high 58,
low 38.

Lodging in nearby home @ $10/day. Please add $120 to
total.
