Green Up Your Festival!
Collecting and Composting Food Scraps at a Special Event

Kutztown, PA - Learn how festival organizers are going beyond bottles and
cans to collect and recycle organic wastes, and experience it first hand at
the same time! This 3-session workshop will be held on Saturday, August 2nd
from 8:30 to 5 p.m. at the Rodale Institute Experimental Farm near Kutztown,
Pennsylvania (about an hour north of Philadelphia).

Attendees will learn all aspects of festival composting, from what to collect
and how to collect it, to how do you compost it (both on and off site). The
speakers, from Maine, New York and Pennsylvania have 10 years combined
experience planning and implementing food scrap collection at events as
varied as a music festival, a country fair and an Earth Day celebration.

An exciting aspect of this workshop is that it will be held in conjunction
with the Rodale Institute's GardenFest! '97. This is our annual celebration
of organic gardening, food and health. Lectures will be given by over twenty
noted garden, nutrition and culinary specialists including featured speaker,
John Jeavons, master gardener, ecologist, and Director of Ecology Action.
Twenty major garden specialty and environmentally focused companies will
exhibit and sell their products. The Farm market will include local organic
growers and small specialty food businesses. Participants in Green Up Your
Festival Workshop will have ample opportunity to enjoy the festival.

The cost for this unique workshop is only $125, which includes admission to
GardenFest! '97. Space is limited, so register early. Call 610-683-1400 to
receive registration and information materials.

Rodale Institute works with people worldwide to achieve a regenerative food
system that renews environmental and human health. It is a non-profit,
publicly supported charity under sections 501(c)3 and 509(a)2 of the IRS code.
