DEEP-SUSTAINABILITY

The National Centre for Sustainability, a not for profit organization incorporated in British Columbia, Canada, presents a deep-thought educational process focusing on the theme of deep-sustainability. We present, on this site:

  1. A reflection on EDUCATION FOR DEEP-SUSTAINABILITY, in which
    • we explain our understanding of deep-sustainability,
    • then examine the merits and shortcomings of current action to deal with the apparently growing gap between human demands on nature and the latter's ability to cater to those demands and absorb the effects of human activities, and
    • thirdly propose a strategy to deal effectively with the likely risks and threats, by combining current official action and useful, catalytic complements, all educational in nature.
  2. A brief description of the INITIAL COMPONENTS OF A FIRST STEP TOWARD DEEP-SUSTAINABILITY EDUCATIONwhich
    • refers the visitor to more detailed explanations about each of these components,
    • spells out their degree of development and their current level of delivery in the real world, and
    • proposes ways for interested parties to join the action and take part in the process;
  3. A presentation of the NATIONAL CENTRE FOR SUSTAINABILITYwith
    • references to
      • our mission,
      • our objectives,
      • our approach to the issues and
      • our strategies of partnership in education for deep-sustainability,
      then
    • a list of our main members and supporters, and finally
    • indications about ways to join us in our action.
  4. A wide and dynamic LIST OF REFERENCES AND CROSS-LINKAGES (HOT LIST)with
    • many references, cross references,
    • cross-linkages (hot links) to a growing number of sites of interest on the Net, and
    • a direct posting on our site of a few key papers;
    and finally,
  5. An INTERNAL NEWSLETTER, "CURRENT DEVELOPMENTS, WHAT IS NEW AT THE NCFS,with continuously updated information about action in sustainability education anywhere, including of course at the NCFS.

Such an educational process is highly and urgently necessary. We explain why this is so in THE SUSTAINABILITY DILEMMA

Managing the many activities of the NCFS outside of the mainstream and trying to cooperate openly and constructively with reluctant first strategists requires considerable energy and means of action. Given the NCFS' vocation of maximum possible independence, this can only be achieved by increasing membership and assembling persons in synergy. If you are interested and perhaps if you wish to join please examine our invitation to join the action
