GENERAL INFORMATION
Conference Site and Facilities
This conference will be held at the YMCA Blue Ridge
Assembly, a conference center in Black Mountain, NC.
The Blue Ridge Assembly is 15 miles east of Asheville
and 2 miles south from exit 64 off I-40. The 1200 acre
site includes hiking trails. mountain views and
waterfalls. The main building has lodging, the
cafeteria, meeting rooms and an exhibit area, with
additional conference lodging in an adjacent building.
Accommodations
The Blue Ridge Assembly has accommodations for
conference attendees in double rooms with bathrooms.
Room rates are $28.50/person night for double occupancy
and $47/night for single. Room reservations and payment
must be made directly to the Blue Ridge Assembly using
the attached registration form. Alterative
accommodations include the Econolodge in east Asheville
($35/night + tax) at 800-424-4777 and a KOA campground
in Swannanoa ($17 + tax) at 704-686-3121.
Meals
Meals provided for conference attendees include a
banquet on Friday night, lunch and dinner on Saturday
and a brunch on Sunday. In addition snacks will be
provided at breaks. Meals will highlight organic and
Carolina produced food. Except for the meat entrees,
all food selections are vegan. Saturday breakfast is
available for an additional $6.

NOT receive meals (based on availability) but will
receive snacks. Call for availability of meals after
October 20. Overnight accommodations are NOT included
in the registration fee.

Membership in Carolina Farm Stewardship Association is
$30/year. This membership entitles you to bimonthly
issues of Stewardship News, CFSA 's Membership
Directory and reduced entrance fees to tours and
workshops throughout North and South Carolina.
Cancellations: refunds will be made for cancellations
received by October 20 with a $5 cancellation fee.
After this date and up to November 1, a $10
cancellation fee will be charged. No refunds can be
made for cancellations received later than November 1.
However, you may designate an alternate attendee at any
time by calling 919-968-1030.
Exhibits
Exhibitors are welcome. The fee for commercial
exhibitors is $100 per table; for non-profit
organizations, the fee is $50 per table. Conference
attendance is additional. You may reserve as much space
as you desire. Please call Tom Sabel at 919-836-8944 to
reserve exhibit space. People interested in being a
conference sponsor should contact the CFSA office for
more information (919-968-1030).
Scholarships
Limited scholarships are available for NC farmers and
SC Extension Agents. Call CFSA at 919-968-1030 for more
information.
Child Care
Are you interested in bringing your young children to
the conference? We may be able to help obtain
parent-paid baby-sitters for children under 12. These
children would not attend the conference workshops or
meals. Contact the CFSA office (919-968-l030)) before
October 20 to confirm availability.
Silent Auction
A silent auction is planned for Saturday, November 10.
If you have any items or services to donate or can
solicit donations from local businesses, please bring
them to the conference. (Items could be gardening or
farming supplies new or in good condition, fresh or
preserved food. Books....and services could range from
4 hours of carpentry to landscape consulting to offers
to teach a class. Proceeds will benefit CFSA. For more
information on the auction, please call Roberta
Greenspan at 704-251-5666.
Seed Exchange
Seed saving and seed exchanges are key steps to
regional self-determination, preservation of genetic
diversity, and selection of regionally adapted and
improved plant varieties. Exchange sessions are planned
during breaks on Saturday for those who wish to barter
or trade seeds, tubers, rooted cuttings etc. Please
label each seed variety with species and variety name,
original source if known, seed savers' name, geographic
place where grown, if organically grown, and any
comments of the variety's features, advantages,
ornamental or craft use, etc. Bring bulk or prepackaged
seed. We recommend packaging appropriate numbers (25
for garden plants and 100-200 for field crops).
Remaining seeds will be left for self-serve
distribution. We will also develop a mailing list for
those interested in further exchange opportunities.
