Marshall Smith in Lexington, Mississippi, 60 miles SE of Greenville.  I read Percy and everything I could find related to Percy for three years during law school when I should have been studying the law.  Got Cs in law school but an enhanced way of seeing the world from Percy. I still re-read him often.  Among a lot of other things, his gift for seeing through BS, political and otherwise, is very important now.

PS -- that last post was from me, Rhonda, and I'm in Arizona. Leslie is a Canadian, and I feel like I should remember which province but I don't. It might be fun to do a sort of roll call on James's behalf and tell him where we are and if we'll be at the WP Weekend. Sadly I will not be there, though some year I would very much like to go. Who else is out in list-ville? Are you planning to attend?

Hi James,

Welcome.
Really chuffed to hear of someone doing a Phd on WP.
You might care to check out a recent symposium that I edited (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/zygo.2016.51.issue-4/issuetoc#group5) and am in the process of editing a book on WP as philosopher.
Feel free to drop me a line.

Cheers,

Leslie.

Hello all,

I'm James Rogerson from Victoria, Australia and I'm just starting in on a PhD on Walker Percy at Charles Sturt University. I'm glad to have found this group as readers of WP in Australia are not numerous (I met a professor once who thought he might have read The Moviegoer).

I'm lucky enough to have Australian government funding for my studies and I'm giving serious thought to burning some of it up on a trip to the Walker Percy Weekend in June.

Apart from academics, I teach high school English and have 3 kids under 4 to keep me busy.

Looking forward to the conversations.
