Mozilla.
Or should I try Thunderbird?

Thunderbird is simply the spinoff/stand-alone mail client derived from
Mozilla mail.
Mozilla is the "whole bundle" of web browser, e-mail client, and a few
other goodies.
Firefox is likewise the spinoff/stand-alone web browser derived from
Mozilla browser.

And so, Mozilla is an excellent choice as it does the web, email and newsgroups and does them all well, fail-safe and reliable - easy to configure and back up (aand restore).

You get one file to install (for Mac):
mozilla-mac-1.7.11.dmg 13,931KB
downloadable at this location:
http://www.mozilla.org/products/mozilla1.x/
