May not have read further developments on this thread but here's my
thought on:

If I've searched by common name, I want to see the common name as a mental
anchor for remembering what I'm looking at.
Having the latin name also (e.g. in parens) would be a great implicit
learning tool for getting latin names into one's head.
However if I search on common name and thereafter see only latin name that
learning opportunity is missed (and it's a bug to show me only latin name
if I searched on common name - the mental\visual connection is lost, I
didn't get what I asked for, etc.).
