Brad,

Personally, I have a few hives with "large opening" entrance reducers in place during ApiGuard treatment. No problem. I typically leave my inner covers on but move the outer cover backwards to close the air notch (my notches are in the front). My guess is that this doesn't matter much but my intent is to more or less seal up the hive. I have also used it without inner covers and thus without an upper air notch, sealed or otherwise. Again, I have no problem when I do this.

Your experience may vary.

Randall

My hives are currently using reduced entrances, the larger of the two openings using a standard entrance reduce, to reduce robbing potential.  I note that due to heavier than air Thymol fumes, the instructions for Apigard suggest closing up screened bottom boards.  I plan to do that.

1. What are peoples' thoughts on retaining the entrance reducers or removing them during this more closed up process over the next month or so?

2. How about leaving the small top opening open in the standard inner/telescoping cover arrangement?

Temps are still pretty warm.

Thanks,

Brad
