I would be concerned about putting boric acid (borax) in the hive this way. Bees are known to feed trapped hive beetles and could easily exchange the poison with them.

I've seen people use the campaign sign strips without any sort of enhancement. They just cut them a few inches wide and stick them on the bottom board or inner cover. Beetles hide in the tunnels. The beekeeper periodically pulls the strips out and quickly plunges them in a bucket of soapy water. Bye bye beetles.

Here's a pretty good YouTube video for building the traps. Not sure how the boric acid would effect the hive though.

Hi Friends,
I heard last year that corrugated plastic is useful for making hive beetle traps. Is this true? If so, anyone interested in getting some election signs to reuse for this purpose? I work for the OC solid waste dept. and would like to put this reuse option out to those picking up signs since our recycler does not want them.  Need to check my facts tho... and measure interest.
Thanks for the connections!
