I also forgot to mention that the google map is not the only option when it comes to finding a mentor.  Simply sending a message to the list explaining what you are looking for should work.  Standing up at the next meeting and asking for a mentor should also work.

As in all other aspects of beekeeping, there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Okay...No more emails from me today.

Hello All,

With bee school winding down and new packages on the way, it's time to get serious about our mentoring program. Folks who already have bees and had a mentor to help them along the path understand how important these relationships are.  I believe a new beekeeper with a competent mentor has a much improved chance of success.  If you had a mentor that helped you get on your beekeeping feet, now is the time to pay off that debt.  You can't repay your mentor, but you can  pay it forward .

I put together a google map to try to help folks connect.  So far I have been impressed with the participation.  The map includes over 60 folks and hundreds of hives.  The map has nearly 7000 views so far.  We have about 13 folks who say they are willing to mentor, 10 folks who are looking for a mentor/bee buddy, and 40 folks who I would describe as "undeclared".  They have entered their location and some information, but have not clearly said "I will mentor" or "I need a mentor".

If you have entered your information on the map, I hope you will stop back in and read over what you have entered.  If you are willing to mentor, say that in your description.  If you are looking for a mentor or a bee buddy, say that in your description.  Also, please check your location and verify that your placemarker is still in the correct location.  I believe some may have been inadvertantly moved around as folks were editing the map.

The map may be found at http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=213654524739524945979.0004b61e928fae4542d0d&msa=0

If you need help, I'll do my best.

Thanks,

Lewis
