Univ. WI publishes the magazine 'Wisconsin People and Ideas', website
wisconsinacademy.org In the Fall 2015 issue was a nice article about the
project to preserve and ID old apple trees on the former farms of the former
Badger Army Ammunition Plant. "Of Connection and Renewal". I've tried to
figure out how to post a link for the listserv, but the magazine's website
and the URLs at the end of the article aren't any help. The group doing the
project-- the Badger Apple Corp-- doesn't have a website.
It's an interesting article and seems fairly complete (lacking mention of
some of the hard winters and long droughts these trees have survived). I
don't know how to get it to the listserv other than scanning it and linking
the images, which is probably against copyright.
Otherwise, watch for results of some research the article mentions: the
accumulation in fruit of toxins from contaminated soils.
