I've had a single cornus mas (Cornelian Cherry) tree for 12 years here in
Chicago. It grew 14' high, 12'wide, a multi-stemmed beauty which the
smalls birds loved, and last year yielded 5 gallons of berries, plenty for
sharing. (It unfortunately was tipped over in one of our high wind
storms...) But the jams made from this fruit were unusual and delicious -
I've made plain, with rosemary, with ginger and black pepper, and with
cardamon. I highly recommend this fruit tree for smaller urban yards!
