Scoring the trunk 3/4 around one side and about 2 inches above scoring3/4
around the other direction will induce flowering. Once flowering begins it
generally continues.
This works best before extension growth ends in early summer.
Spreading branches can also help to induce bloom. Branches approaching 45
degrees from vertical are more prone to flowering than more vertical growth.
I scored my Magness pears at 4 years old and they have had pears every
since.
