I was picking Evan's cherries at Barb's again yesterday... after picking
another 8 gallons of the ripest, darkest cherries from the top of the tree
(much standing on the top of a ladder!) after yet another day in the 30's
with yet another thunderstorm at night, I threw out about 6 cherries that had
brown rot on them. No bird damage either which is a bit surprising since the
birds ate all her Saskatoons just a few weeks ago. But the yellow wasps were
out in full force eating those dark tasty cherries from the top of the tree,
didn't think I would make it thru picking without getting stung!

Evans cherries are fabulous here in Montana as well. Reliable, always tasty
and unblemished. So far, the birds stay away from reflective bird tape.

I just picked 15 gallons of Evan's cherries off my friend's trees this
morning: the big dark ones are so tasty to eat that I may have eaten too
many. :o) No mould anywhere on any of them and we have been getting rain on
a daily basis up here this summer while hitting the 30's (that's 86+F for
you Americans)... both of which are a bit unusual for us. We are usually
much drier and in the 20's (68F) which would help keep mould at bay. Don't
know: maybe those Cherries just do better up here cuz that is where they
were found, about an hour North of me near St. Albert, Alberta.

Soon after my Evans cherries turn red, they begin to mold.

My hylocereus, which comes out of the greenhouse every spring as it's not
happy in there over the summer, was full of flower buds yesterday. Today
they were mostly gone and I saw a chipmunk running away with one. I had no
idea they were edible. So no dragon fruit this year, I guess.
