Is there some place where I can get hold of some KDL (potassium-dextrose-lactose spray for freeze protection) before Saturday?
I didn't see the freezing forecast until just now.

Sorry, I misunderstood. First, remember that these bush fruit are very cold
hardy and may not be damaged by the freeze as much as you fear. If the new
shoots are frozen back, I'd prune each of the branches on the plants back to
three to five buds. If they are present, dormant buds, whether on what
remains of the branches or on the roots, should sprout. Be patient with this
process, it may take a while. I'm not sure why you're contemplating
resetting the plants, unless you want to have more of the buds on the
branches buried so there will be buds to sprout should another freeze like
the expected one occur. -- Sam

Sam, what I'm saying is they have leafed out a month ago and this
weekend all that leafing out will be frozen back. Just wondering out
loud if it will reset the plants to want to send out some secondary
buds....

As long as the elderberry and currant plants have not leafed out, you can
take and stick cuttings. Most of the buds will be beneath the soil once
they're stuck, and this should protect them from any cold temps you
experience this spring. -- Sam Brungardt, St. Paul, Minn. (USDA Zone 4a)

Normally this is the time of the year that I would be lopping off
elderberries and currants, and digging up suckers but I've done a
minimal amount of that this year given how far ahead the season. Next
week I'm seeing low temps in the high teens which should do a pretty
good job of killing all new growth. I was thinking tho that that
might reset the plants a bit and maybe it would again make sense to do
cuttings? Thoughts?
