#1 Graft onto a 1 year seedling apple tree.
#2 Graft onto mm-111 rootstock which will give you an apple tree 80% of standard or onto Alnarp2 which will give you a tree that is 90% of standard or onto m-13 which is considered 110% of standard.

When grafting onto a seedling tree you have to remember that each seedling will be a little different in vigor.

I have some seedlings that were seeds saved from Sweet Sixteen. They are now 4 years old and are about 8 to 10 feet tall or more right now.

Let me re-state the question:
How best does one create a standard apple tree?

Thank you,
