Steve, the long-term problems I have seen on sweet cherries were not related
to whether they were on Krymsk, Gisela, Colt, GM 61, Mahleb or Mazzard - I
had them all in a row and I couldn't tell much difference.
All the roots were fine, the problem was the bacterial canker which killed
several trees, leaf diseases due to the trees not liking the heat, pesky
leaf-curling aphids, curculio, OFM, brown rot, splitting, and then birds
taking what made it that far.
Your variety choices are good, Black and White Gold are two of my favorites.
