Similar techniques work with a lot of root veggies. It's a little fun to do.

Ever want to eat Vidalia Onions out of season? When you get them in
Spring, cut them in half. Plant the bottom half in soft soil covering with
one to two inches of soil. Water well. You'll get a few to, maybe up to a
dozen, green onions for you to enjoy. OR, leave them and they'll develop
