Graft scions of best quality named varieties(not seedlings) on Quince
rootstock.
This yields more manageable plant (and more precocious) for containerized
growing
The quince rootstock has a dwarfing effect on the scion variety (wch means
reduced fruit yield)
No significant overgrowth observed at the graft union (after 4 years)

Thanks for the guidance. I will see if I can locate some scions of named
varieties and try my hand at grafting them -- although I have never grafted
anything (successfully anyway) that wasn't at least close to dormant.

Mine flowers well, fruit forms, but I don't have enough heat to ripen them
(or I haven't the past 2 years, one of which was a very cold summer)
Of course, my plant just might be a type that requires longer than I have to
ripen.
