I grow my pole beans in the same row year-after-year without a problem.
They get their nitrogen out of the air (rather than the soil) so the seed can be sown very close (an inch apart).
As to how high they will grow ...maybe twenty feet!
Runner beans will abort their flowers without setting beans when the temperature gets hot.

Try different varieties to see what works for you.
I've heard that corn, pole beans and squash can be grown in the same space,but I think you'd have to get a headstart with the corn by germinating it indoors in peatpots.

I try to move things around in my garden so I am not planting the same thing in the same place year after year. Is it a problem to re-plant pole beans in the same spot repeatedly? Jerry in southern Indiana
