- Subject: [NAFEX] Anyone eat honeylocust pods?
- Date: Tue, 4 Jan 2011 03:22:58 -0500 (EST)
Hi,
The native Americans ate honeylocust pods (Gleditsia triacanthos) [note: NOT black locust, Robinia pseudoacacia]; agriculturists use it to feed livestock.
There are cultivars which are higher in sugar - i.e. 'Ashworth'. The southern strains seem to be higher in sugar whereas the northern, of course, more hardy.
Anyone here eat them? I would, since they are - although have never tried them yet; but I eat things which are terrible.. wild grapes (the small ones), blackhaw viburnum, etc.
Thanks,
Steve
